All of us have our preferred choices. Of these, Yoyo quilt is my obvious choice. Yes admittedly people would differ as yoyo quilts are the most intricate to make of all the varieties.
But then Yoyo quilts are the most intricate for that very reason. Let’s be all clear that Yoyo quilts take impervious time to make and thus are meant for impatient and beginners. During the 1930’s & 40’s these quilts were at the prime in recognition and their time seems to be here again now.
These quilts are basically small rosettes containing cotton. The technique involves assembling and sewing material into a circle. The rosettes are then stitched into a predetermined pattern. Printed materials are commonly used for making yoyos.
The choice of fabric is not limited as ironing is not required for these quilts and therefore batting type can also vary. Many a times a large fabric is used as a cover for yoyos, some do it as they do not like their special yoyo to get spoilt while using it while others just like to preserve the quilt for longer use.
Yoyo quilts like other quilts are the result of our imagination of colors and patterns, they can be made as per your perference . If you like your yoyo to serve as mini cushion on your sofa or like a bed cover then slight adjustments of not adding batting and backpack shall do it.
Be clear that initially the art of making a yoyo quilt can be difficult to learn but gradually once you have got accustomed to the steps it shall not take much time.
It’s always important that the supplies are ready before hand. Beautiful designs added with color variations give the yoyo quilt an elegant look. Here are the steps to craft a yoyo quilt.
1. Before you do anything have the size of the quilt in you mind and thereafter make a spherical cut-out pattern twice that dimension and an extra 1/2″. A cardboard cutout will act as a guide.
2. Place the cut-out pattern to your right or left hand side of the fabric depending on your writing hand and then using a pencil create a highlighted area around it. Allow space of 1/2″ between circles.
3. Create circles of size ? inch after the line.
4. It is recommended that a quilting thread be used or else if you use a regular thread then sew with 2 strands. Tie a knot at the last tip of the thread and take it upside from behind while folding underneath the ring on the line.
5. Keep stitching on the line of the circle, folding underneath the seam allowance further.
6. As you keep stitching you shall reach the start point again, there pull the thread so that it all collects within a rosette. the yoyo should have an opening in the center
7. Few backstitches will help secure the thread, tie a knot so that the thread is not lost.
8. All the excess thread should be cut off then re-knot & start another yoyo.
9. Place the yoyo in front of you in rows in a manner that reflects the kind of design/pattern you want to make.
10. Now sew two yoyos. Stitching can be done either from the middle or any side. Do this again until all rows are done. Now sew all the rows to form one piece.
11. What you can also do is sew the yoyo with a larger material, then adding batting to it & adding finishing touch to the edges.

Modern needlepoint derives from the canvas tent artwork that was quite popular during the 16th century and the shadowed wool work in bright-colored yarn that was a craze during the 19th century. In Early American civilization, young girls usually made cross stitch or needlepoint works that normally consisted of a blessing on their families in combination with the numbers and alphabet. This ritual of passing showed not only their ability in stitching, but their literacy as well.
Selecting the canvas is one among the most vital aspects of planning a needlepoint work. Another important thing involves picking out the stitch or stitches to be done in the fabric from among the five basic categories of needlepoint stitches. Even though the two aspects rely upon one another, we will deal with the needlepoint canvas. The size and type of the canvas utilized will have a bearing on the quantity of detail in the blueprint of your work. Apparently, the more elaborate the project, the better the gage of canvas.
Many kinds of needlepoint canvas are used. Double thread and Single thread canvas are with sufficient holes or spaces to let big threads to move through without frazzling. Usually canvas is classed by thread count per inch or mesh sizes. Sizes differ from 5 to 24 threads every inch; standard mesh sizings are 10,12,14,18, and 24. The three kinds of needlepoint canvas available in the market are interlock, penelope and mono.
Mono canvas is available in the broadest diversity of colors (particularly on 18 mesh) and is woven plainly, with one woof thread passing over and below one warp thread. This type of canvas has a good scope for open and manipulation canvas. It is normally used for hand-colored canvases. Penelope canvas is having two threads nearly aggrouped conjointly in both woof and warp. Since these threads can be separate apart, penelope measurements are usually stated in two numbers, like 10/20.
Interlock canvases are having stable mesh intersections although they come with single threads. This happens as the woof threads, break up at the intersection points and enwrapping the warp threads. Interlock canvas is usually employed for impressed canvases. Silk gauze which is a kind of interlock canvas, comes in small frames for tent stitch work. Silk gauze is widely available in 32, 40 and 48 count, while rarely 18 count is sold and 64, 128 and some other counts come handy for miniature needlework.
Designs available in the market for needlepoint work are made in different ways. Charted Canvas, Hand-Painted Canvas, Free-form and Printed Canvas are widely available. In Hand-Painted Canvas, the designer paints the design on the canvas, or painted according to their directions by another person. Some canvases are stitch-painted, wherein each and every thread intersection is fastidiously painted in order that the stitcher has no uncertainties on what color is required to be used with the intersection. They may also be hand-painted, in which case the canvas gets painted with hand and the stitcher will be required to employ his own judgment on the colors to be used in case a thread intersection is not painted intelligibly. Hand-painted needlepoint canvases let the stitcher use his creativity more with unique stitches and threads as he is not required to rely on a separate chart. In the United States this is the most common kind of needlepoint canvas.

Though opals are found around the world, Australia is the biggest source . Precious opal is a hydrous silicon dioxide material, that flashes iridescent colors when it is seen from different angles, or when the is moved or when the light source is moved. This is also know by the term Koroit-Opal.( Boulder Opals)
Certain opals display quite different colors once viewed from different directions, or when the Koroit-opal is turned, or when the light source is moved around. This phenomenon is known by the term “play of color” or opalescence. The color in many Opals is truly exceptional and very pleasing to then eye. The wide range of color in a particular Opal is determined by the diameter and spacing of the silica spheres. Certain colors of an Opal can change depending upon the angle of light incidence, so when an Opal is rotated, its color can change or disappear completely.
Boulder Opals or Koroit-opals is a term for opal mining this is not a actual city or suburb.
Boulder Opals exhibiting such colors, are termed precious and are very valuable, those without it are termed common and have little or no value what so ever. The desirability of opal is based upon color Intensity, and diversity, and uniformity, pattern and ability to be seen from any angle. Most precious Koroit opals will show or reflect a number of colors. The only other major amorphous gemstone is amber. Good quality opals are transparent, not milky. The huge number of colors in Opals are caused by the regular array of silica spheres ,diffracting white light, and breaking the light into the colors of the light spectrum.
Opal is a soft stone, as well as a delicate stone. It is usually milky and translucent. Opal is a hardened silica gel containing 5-20% water. Boulder Opals have a rating a 5.5 to 6.5 on the hardness scale. Opal is amorphous, meaning, it has no crystal structure. Opals may be somewhat porous, in which case it is dangerous to immerse it in liquids other than water. Opal is made from small silica spheres arranged in a regular pattern. The type of silica in Opals is chemically similar to quartz, but Opal silica contains water within the mineral structure. Precious Opal generally contains about 6-10% water.
Boulder opals are found in several places in Australia (including finds like Big Ben). Queensland has the highest area of Koroit or boulder opal fields. 70 per cent of the worlds quality opals come from this little Australian settlement. Opals were discovered 1915.
Opals have been considered a mystical precious stone for hundreds of years. It is said to help the wearer’s psychic powers. Opals are supposed to further enhance the positive characteristics for those people born under the zodiac sign of Cancer. Koroit-opals is very chemically similar to quartz, Rubies are said to change color according to the health of the wearer,Opals are also softer type of gemstone, compared to that of diamonds. The Jewish practice of honoring the mitzvahs is done by the reciting of the Kiddush. The Kiddush recitation is the words of honoring before every Shabbat and holiday meal. This honoring is a Jewish law from the Torah, and these required words before specific meals, long ago came to include the Kiddush cups. The Kiddush Cup is a necessity in every Jewish Synagogue and every practicing Jewish home too! For example, there is the usage of the Kiddush Cup during the Friday night Kiddush honoring, before the even meal. The honoring versions are slightly different, and also shorter, with only the wine honoring without the bread honoring before hand.
The rule of thumb is to use goblet made of silver for the recitation, and this cup is to be full of revi’it or wine. This Kiddush cup is to be first sipped from by the individual that has recited the words of honor, and then it is to be passed around the table for each person to pore a small amount of wine into their smaller cups.
The Kiddush Cup is a necessity in every Jewish Synagogue and every practicing Jewish home too! Many of the beautiful and elegant Silver Sterling Cups will have very detailed carvings within the silver, which are more often than not, the places and events of the Jewish history. It is a required staple to the Shabbat and of any other Jewish holiday honoring. Although the part of the honoring is more important than the makings of the cup its self, the honoring this cup must be large enough, and considered special in some form or manner, even if only symbolically.
There are different meals of Kiddush honoring, just as there are different holidays. For example, there is the usage of the Kiddush Cup during the Friday night Kiddush honoring, before the even meal. After the thankfulness of the breaking of the bread, come the honoring words for the wine with this cup. The Saturday morning Shabbat may also be the next usage of the sacred cup, but this is a Jewish honoring demanded by the Rabi laws, not the laws of Torah. Although, originally this may have been considered a lower status of an honoring, there was eventually elevation due to being what is called “The Great Kiddush”. The honoring versions are slightly different, and also shorter, with only the wine honoring without the bread honoring before hand.
This sacred cup is such an important part of so many Jewish holidays and events, there must be quality within the cup that you finally decide on, especially if looking to make a real staple investment. This is a necessity for many special events throughout the year, like the birth of family additions, weddings, birthdays and many other very happy occasions. With so many blessings, it is best to only purchase a Kiddush Cup that will be a part of your family’s Jewish practicing heritage for generations to come.

Light is the critical element in getting the perfect photograph. This is most true when it comes to outdoor photography, since you have almost no control of the light. Also, when you are shooting outdoors, there are many weather-related factors that can influence your photo.
What’s more, in photography, it’s important to be ready when the “right” shot comes along. When the special moment happens, you want to capture it and enjoy it for a lifetime. A big part of being ready is knowing enough to take advantage of whatever lighting conditions exist in a given moment.
These three tips will help you capture more moments, in a flash (and with or without a flash!). With a little trial and error (yes, expect to make some mistakes – maybe even a lot of mistakes), you’ll become a better photographer and get more great photos.
Tip #1: Know your ISO. It’s easy to set the ISO on most digital cameras – just check your owner’s manual or play around with the settings a bit. The ISO number indicates how sensitive the image sensor is to the amount of light present. ISO settings are 200, 400, 800 and 1600 on most cameras. The higher the ISO, the more sensitive the image sensor, and the more control you exert over the lighting conditions.
So if you’re sitting through double-header little league games and the light gets darker during as the day wears on, then you might want to check you ISO setting when your child gets his or her last at bat. After all, you wouldn’t want to miss a big play that will be a memorable moment for the rest of your lives.
Tip #2: Know the type of light you’re dealing with. There’s a distinct difference between the light you see at sunrise versus the light you see at sunset. Ditto for light in the mid-morning, noon, afternoon and early evening. Your photos will look a lot different depending on the time of day you take the photo, no matter what you’re subject matter. Also, the angle of the light and the shadows impact your photo a great deal.
Recently, I was photographing cottonwood trees in the late afternoon. The leaf of a cottonwood is shiny on one side and dull on the other. This made for a dramatic effect as the slowly setting sun caught the reflection of the shiny side as the wind moved through the branches of the tree.
If you’re taking photos on a bright day, be on the lookout for shots that make best use of sharp shadows. You’ll get a stunning effect. If it’s cloudy, then make sure you find the color (flowers, green grass, etc.).
Tip #3: Know your flash. Your flash has more uses than at night or indoors. Flash is important for many outdoor photos as well. This is called “fill flash,” because the flash fills in dark or shadowed areas of your subject matter. It is really useful when your subject’s back is to the sun.
You should consider using fill flash when you’re subject is in the shade, as a shady spot can often make a photo appear flat. A flash will bring out the highlights and give the photo more depth. Stay within your flash’s range, usually about four to 10 feet. Too far away, and the flash’s impact will be minimal. If you’re too close, you’ll wash out your subject with too much light.
Remember, light plays the biggest role in whether a photograph turns out or not. Keep these tips in mind, and you’re to get a lot of really great photos you’ll be proud to share.
CJ Carroll writes for a variety of clients, including Hoorray, a photo sharing website that offers a free online photo album to new members and is the easiest place to create a digital photo album, calendar, and more.

Has this ever happened to you? At that baby shower you have been planning for months, you have a great time. The time for opening the baby shower gifts is at hand, and you excitedly wait for the new mom-to-be to open that new baby stroller you chose so carefully. Then you see the stroller come in and she is thrilled! Mom-to-be looks at the tag and squeals as she runs past you to another friend and thanks them. Yes, someone else bought the exact same stroller you did at the local mall because they thought it looked awesome too.
There is nothing quite as embarrassing as purchasing a duplicate present for someone you care for. Many years past, I can remember my son receiving four of the same purple dinosaur stuffed animals for Christmas. No one ever knew, and three children hopefully appreciated them because they were donated to a local women’s shelter. There is a way to avoid the problem of multiple gifts. Mexican gift baskets may be a great alternative for you and your recipient when you need something that is both unique and totally delicious.
There are many choices when it comes to a gift basket or box. My preference happens to be to fill mine with Mexican food because it is unusual and it is thoroughly appreciated. There are few people who do not appreciate good Mexican food. Whether you stick to something easy or more complicated, these are gifts that will be remembered and appreciated for years to come. In fact, you can add more than just food, you can add memories.
What can you add to these exceptional presents?
Consider the baskets or boxes. These are a great opportunity to offer a present within a present. The baskets can be beautiful, authentic matching the rich history Mexico has when it comes to basket weaving. Consider something small but authentic and this will be as appreciated as the contents of your soon to be present.
Consider the filler. Most baskets or boxes come with a filler material. This can be straw, paper, or some other type of filler. For these Mexican baskets I prefer straw. The straw is stable, inexpensive, and gives a beautiful look to the whole ensemble. Straw can be natural in color or even dyed to give you a look you want for your purposes.
Consider the filling! This is the best part of any gift basket. You can choose salsas, sauces, tortilla chips, recipes, hot sauces, and so much more on the edible side. However, there is also an inedible side too! There are decorations, seeds, glass goods, and so much more. You will most often find a mixture of edible and inedible items make a gift basket that will be in the heart of your receiver for years to come. Not only will they be fed but they will also have a beautiful keepsake or two.
When you are making a gift basket for your friends or family, you may just find that a delicious idea is waiting when you explore the cuisine and culture of Mexico.

Scrapbooking adhesives come in more choices than ever. As this hobby grows, the manufacturers are responding to the needs of scrapbookers. Since page layouts have moved from just photos, paper and a few stickers to more complex designs like 3-D elements, metals, fabric and ribbon, scrapbookers now need adhesives that can handle the latest in scrapbooking trends and techniques.
The key to scrapbook adhesives is that they must be photo-safe. You need to be sure any product you are using on your scrapbooking pages, particularly on the back of your photos, will not cause damage to them over time. When it comes to adhesives, scrapbookers have a variety of options.
Photo Corners: These are the pioneer adhesives of scrapbooking, and they still remain a popular choice for many scrapbookers. When scrapbooking first began, photo corners were used because they would allow you to attach photographs to a page and still remove them. Because photo corners are not permanent adhesives, they are ideal for heritage photographs and anything you don’t want to permanently mount to a page. They now come in a variety of colors and materials.
Glue: Whether in pens, bottles or tubes, glue is the most versatile adhesive option for scrapbookers. Glue pens allow you to put a tiny dot of glue where ever you need it. They come in permanent and repositionable varieties, as well as specialized glues made for fabric or metal.
Tape Runners: These are a basic supply for most scrapbookers. Tape runners are double-sided adhesives and come in dispensers or on a roll. Like glue, they are available in permanent and repositionable tape. Tape runners are convenient and fast for quick page layouts. As you run the tape along a surface, it leaves behind a continuous line of adhesive. You use only as much as you need for each item.
Glue Dots: A must-have for heavy embellishments, glue dots allow for a strong bond and are perfect for fabric and ribbons. They come in a range of sizes, mounted on either a roll or sheet.
Glue Sticks: Still a favorite among scrapbookers, glue sticks are less messy than most glue. They allow you to cover a wide area quickly. Yet, they still can be used on small items. Before you purchase glue sticks, make sure they are photo-safe. You don’t want the ones made for school projects.
Adhesive Spray: The advantages of adhesive spray are even coverage and transparency. They work well with vellum, unlike some adhesives that will show through the paper. You do have to be very careful with overspray. Always put down paper to cover your work surface before using adhesive spray.
Tape: Most scrapbookers prefer double-sided tape for adhering scrapbooking page elements. However, one-sided tape is useful on the back of brads or eyelets to keep paper from catching on the prongs.
Foam Tape: Foam tape comes in a variety of sizes and shapes, such as dots and squares. The adhesive is double-sided, and the foam allows page elements to have a dimensional effect. This adds interest to small items and works very well with letters in titles.
Scrapbookers can never have enough adhesive. Always stock up on your favorites and bring plenty with you when you go to a crop or workshop. It helps to have a variety of adhesives available as you work on a project. Consider your choices and choose the ones that best fit your scrapbooking style.

At some point most photographers consider how long their printed pictures will last. As we think about this point we can see how this thought originates at the heart of photography, after all when we take a picture we are trying to preserve a moment in time. We are creating a remembrance of something that will never be exactly the same. In view of this expressed thought when we print our images we want them to keep their visual integrity. Yes, we want them to look as good as they did the day they where printed 100 years from now and longer.
Realistically is this possible and how can we determine how long photo’s and specifically in this article photo’s on canvas will last? As a consumer this question becomes important especially when we are parting with money in exchange for prints.
To answer these questions there are a few variables we must consider.
We must appreciate that not every one is going to display their images under the same conditions. Some will display their image framed with glass, others will without glass. Some will hang them in rooms with bright lights, some in areas of there home or office that get sunlight for part of the day. Still, others will hang them in areas with high humidity such as bathrooms. All of these scenarios have a bearing on the longevity of a photo on canvas. In light of this we realize that applying “Display Permanence Ratings” to an image that we are going to hang in a given area, will give us not an exact, but general idea of how long that image will last. The determining factors are not just the ink, canvas, sealer, ext. although these are important, equally important is the environment the image will be displayed in.
The company that has really pioneered the most excepted tests for measuring displayed print longevity is Wilhelm Imaging Research Inc. The expression “Display Permanence Ratings” refers to a standard of tests that show the longevity of prints. This company is not a manufacturer of imaging products but is a third party research company which allows them to be more objective and non partial when rating print permanence. Their tests take into consideration such factors as light-fastness humidity-fastness ozone-fastness as well as other factors. Their research has shown that quality inks, combined with quality canvas, printed on a quality printer and finally sealed with a quality sealer can produce photo canvas prints that will last anywhere from 60 to 142 years without “noticeable fading”. Some of the constant features of these test environments are that the light is 12 hours a day at an exposure brightness of 450 Lux The temperature being 75 degrees Fahrenheit and 60% humidity. It is of great value to know that many household display areas are similar to this description of these test environments.
Information like this is invaluable to both Print Professionals and consumers.
No doubt many would agree that it is the responsibility of the print professional to be educated about such things.
The canvas chosen by a print shop should be archival. The company that manufactures the canvas should stand by there product with a guarantee that their canvas will out last the inks used to print on them.
The inks too should be archival, industry tested like Epson Ultra Chrome K3? inks.
Finally the sealer should encapsulate the ink protecting it from ozone as well as having UV protecting qualities. It should also be water resistant if not water proof. The reason for such a high standard for the sealer is because at present I am using a sealer that is so amazing I have literally taken a canvas print sealed with it and put it under a running faucet for ten seconds. The water just beaded and rolled off with no visible effect to the print.
So then a company that has done their homework, and strives to produce the best product they possibly can. should be able to say to their clients with confidence “under reasonable conditions your photo on canvas will last 100 years.”

Predominantly quilts that fit the size of your lap are termed as lap quilts, lap quilts are comfy, soft and tender felt. Laps quilts are similar to those like a bed quilts just the size is smaller.
If you like yours to be that extra bit cozier you can simply do that by adding more batting but as a precaution prewash the fabric, find the right fabric and do iron it if it is cotton so as to compress the batting.
If the material is a wash & wear type then iron is not a must as the fabric will not get furrowed and craggy on washing. Here below is the list of instructions to be followed while making a lap quilt.
TOOLS AND SUPPLIES THAT ARE REQUIRED:
* Customary sewing machine
* Spray starch
* Rotary cuter
* Embroidery needles - general size 12
* Iron
* Needles
* Cutting mat
* Quilt batting
* Fabric in 4 colors or 4 shades.
* Pins- beaded head
* Design for block quilt
* Rotary ruler
Instructions For Making Lap Quilt
1. Buy 3 yards of blended cotton fabric (Wash and Wear). Harmonize colors and patterns. Play with color combinations as you please, pick your favourite pink color or have blue outlines also make sure your you have all other supplies stored before hand.
2. We recommend Prewash of fabrics as a necessity. As some fast color may go dull or even rub on to your quilt later on so prewash it and let get dried completely, there are chances of the fabric shrinking too.
Dry up the fabric and then proceed to iron the material once you have sprayed starch to it. Take extra care of keeping the fabric absolutely dry and hard sans wrinkles.
3. Thereafter, on a place mat lay the fabrics one over the other like a heap. With the use of a scale slice nearly 150, 3 and half inch by 3 and half inch squares applying a rotary cutter. All the squares you cut should be of similar dimensions and importantly without edging or irregular.
4. Now decide the pattern of the quilt and lay the squares that way. Permit for 10 strings of 15 squares. Arrange the cut material (squares) for each particular string in different plies.
5. First stitch each string of those squares thus making individual rows. 1/4-inch seams are then to be stitched. Iron the joints smoothly. Thereafter stitch the entire individual rows as one and you should have in hand a ten by fifteen square quilt.
6. Take your selected batting material and put it over the piecing. Place the piecing in such a manner that the upper side is facing the mat while the side that has stitches visible should face the batting. Next, put your lining fabric on it.
7. Once that is done, we have three things, the batting, the piecing and the lining fabric. Your task shall be to stitch them all or co join them using a sewing machine. Experimentation with different design patterns should be avoided at a beginner’s stage.
8. Spruce surplus batting by cutting the side threads or nets of the quilt. Pin casing to the border of that quilt on all the corners stretching on the outer side. A sewing machine can be used to sew the binding. Extra threading can be cut away.
